HeartSmart EKG Screening Comes to Vernon Hills High School
"Vernon Hills High School has enjoyed a successful partnership with Max Schewitz Foundation for many years," said Greg Stilling, VHHS Assistant Principal. "Every year they have come to our school they have been able to help our families in protecting the health of their children. We are excited to have them back again this fall and would encourage all families to take advantage of this free EKG screening."
The event is sponsored by the Max Schewitz Foundation which strives to provide high-quality, low-cost cardiac testing and relies extensively on volunteers to achieve its goals. Thanks to underwriting provided through Vernon Hills High School, the HeartSmart EKG program will be offered to all VHHS students at no cost to the student. Testing occurs during PE, Health, Drivers Ed or Study Hall.
"Our oldest son had an EKG screening done 2 years ago and we were so grateful for the peace of mind it gave us," said Julie Moore, VHHS parent. "We have scheduled screenings for all 3 of our sons this fall because you can never be too sure. Thanks to the Max Schewitz Foundation for making these screenings available to us."

About The Max Schewitz Foundation
Based in Libertyville, Ill., The Max Schewitz Foundation's dual missions reflect Max's life and death. His parents and family friends started the Foundation in 2005 after 20-year-old Max died suddenly from a cardiac arrhythmia. The Max Schewitz Foundation works to prevent sudden cardiac death (SCD) in young people through HeartSmart EKG and to promote conservation of fragile reptile species and their ecosystems. To date, almost 90,000 students in Illinois and Wisconsin have received EKG testing from the Foundation and 2,305 students were given limited echocardiograms. The Foundation has found 849 students who required further medical evaluation. To learn more, call Kathy Aykroid, executive director at 847-736-8140, or follow on Twitter and Facebook.
