Grand Valley St women snap Ashland's 50-game home win streak
ASHLAND, Ohio (AP) - Grand Valley State beat No. 3 Ashland for the second time this season on Saturday, ending the Eagles' program-record 50-game home win streak.
On Dec. 6, the Lakers upset then-No. 1 Ashland at home to snap the Eagles' 69-game regular-season win streak and 30-game road unbeaten stretch.
With the score tied at 71, reigning Division II player of the year Jodi Johnson had the ball stripped out of her hands by GVSU's Victoria Hedemark with 17 seconds left. GVSU dribbled down the clock, and Natalie Koenig got it on the right wing near the 3-point line, driving it along the left side of the line for a friendly roll. Renee Stimpert's long 3-pointer at the buzzer didn't hit the rim.
Cassidy Boensch had 31 points - despite being held scoreless in the first quarter - 13 rebounds, and seven blocks for GVSU.
Johnson finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists for Ashland. She moved into sixth on Ashland's scoring list with 1,499 career points.
