East St. Louis man dies after being hit by MetroLink train

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A 56-year-old East St. Louis man who was struck by a MetroLink train last month in southwestern Illinois has died.

The Belleville News-Democrat (bit.ly/23KW3yZ ) reports that Jeffrey Coker died Sunday at the St. Louis hospital where he'd been treated after suffering a severed foot and paralysis from a March 4 accident at the Swansea light rail station.

Attorney Ryan Mahoney says that Coker's family is seeking an autopsy.

A spokeswoman for the Bi State Development Agency, which operates the St. Louis region's public transit system, cited an expected lawsuit on behalf of Coker in declining comment.
