Barrington fares well on road

Barrington senior Kelly Katis scored in double figures for the fourth time in six games to help the Fillies earn a 45-31 nonconference girls basketball victory at Grayslake North on Wednesday night.

The 5-foot-5 guard, who connected for a career-high 24 points against Fenwick at the Dundee-Crown Charger Classic last month, tossed in 15 points with 5 assists, 3 steals and three 3-pointers against Grayslake North.

The Fillies held the Knights to 5 points in the first quarter and led 29-15 at halftime.

Senior Megan Talbot had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Barrington while teammate Abigail Elo added 9 with 3 steals and 2 assists as she returned from an ankle injury that kept her out of three games.

Unfortunately, Fillies junior Alex Van Ryne injured her ankle in the second quarter and was sidelined the rest of the game.

Teammate Rachel Mori chipped in 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 1 assist.

"Rachel had a nice game at both ends of the floor," said Barrington coach Babbi Barrerio. "She had some really timely rebounds and steals.

"Megan (Talbot) did a nice job cleaning up the boards and Kelly had a very steady game."

Senior Brianna Stryczek hit a key 3-pointer in the second quarter for the Fillies.

Barrington was also without senior Auri Grayson (dislocated finger). Barreiro hopes Grayson can return on Friday, when the Fillies (8-11, 3-2) host Schaumburg (12-7, 4-1).

Grayslake North (12-9), which finished 1-3 in tournament play at Washington recently and won its final game there, was led by Sidney Lovitsch (9 points) Abbey Stinner (7).
