Girls water polo: Conant takes fourth at Palatine
Conant's girls water polo team led Evanston 3-1 entering the fourth quarter of the third-place game in Saturday's tournament at Palatine, but the Wildkits came up with 3 goals in the final period to claim a 4-3 victory.
Olivia Olszewski, Nia Tsoulos and Angie Skittone each had a goal for Conant.
Lincoln-Way East took the tourney title by handling Neuqua Valley 14-3.
In the fifth-place game, coach Natalie Tucker's Prospect team topped Palatine 10-3.
The Knights got 3 goals from Gracie Dix and 2 apiece from Colleen Doyle and Anne Fulk, while all of Palatine's scoring was supplied by Kiki Herbst.
In pool play, Conant edged Prospect 3-1 behind goals from Lea Cejvan, Paulina Chowaniec and Olszewski. The Cougars fell short against Lincoln-Way East 9-4.
Palatine edged Maine South 3-2, with Ashley Helminski scoring twice and Herbst once.
• Maine West's girls water polo team came up with three victories Saturday to win the five-team tournament it hosted Saturday.
The Warriors topped Lake Forest 6-3, Wheeling 11-4 and Riverside-Brookfield 9-4.
• Rolling Meadows and Elk Grove both finished 3-1 in the tournament at Elk Grove on Saturday.
In the head-to-head matchup, against Elk Grove, Rolling Meadows prevailed 8-4 so was awarded the top finish.
The Mustangs also topped Maine East 11-6 and Warren 12-4 but fell 7-4 to Libertyville.
Elk Grove rolled past Warren (12-1) and Libertyville (9-5) and eked out a 10-9 victory over Maine East.
Hannah Sallenback scored in each game for Elk Grove, finishing with 11 goals for the day, and goalie Melena Herrera had a total of 49 saves.
• Barrington took third place in York's six-team tournament, first suffering a 9-2 loss to the host Dukes before topping Lane 11-1 and then edging St. Charles East 8-6 in the third-place game.
