Hoffman Estates to host one-day recycling event

The Village of Hoffman Estates is partnering with the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County to host a one-day recycling event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Susan H. Kenley-Rupnow Public Works Center, 2305 Pembroke Ave.

SWANCC is sponsoring a combined document destruction and electronics recycling drive. There is no cost to attend, but the event is for residents of SWANCC-member communities only and proof of residency is required. Simply drive to the Public Works Center and workers will unload the recyclables from your car.

A variety of electronics will be accepted, including but not limited to: answering machines, receivers, cameras, cellphones, fax machines, microwaves, personal computers and equipment, small home appliances, all types and sizes of televisions and video games consoles.

Typical documents that can be shredded include medical records, bank statements and retired tax forms. Staples and paper clips are acceptable, but binders should be removed. Residents will be limited to six grocery-size paper bags or file-size boxes of documents. Do not bring paper in plastic bags.

Materials from businesses, institutions or schools will not be accepted.

In addition to document destruction and electronics recycling, the village will also be accepting these items for recycling:

• Expired drugs/sharps (noncontrolled substances)

• Fluorescent and compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) light bulbs

• Batteries (not automotive)

• Printer cartridges

• Latex paint (charge ranges from $2 per quart; $10 per 5-gallon)
