Our Lady of Guadalupe in Des Plaines to host Grupos Guadalupanos
The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe will host the first gathering of "Grupos Guadalupanos," or devotees of Our Lady of Guadalupe, from parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago at noon Saturday, Aug. 19.
The day will begin at 12 p.m. with a special retreat for Guadalupano leadership offered by Rev. Esequiel Sanchez, rector of the shrine, focusing on Our Lady of Guadalupe's message and her universal call for the church to reach out to those in need.
At 2 p.m. participants will gather to sing Las MaƱanitas to Our Lady at the outdoor grotto.
A bilingual Mass with the Rev. Alberto Rojas, auxiliary bishop of Chicago, as principal celebrant will be at 6 p.m. The day will conclude with a candlelit procession throughout the grounds along with performances by mariachi, folkloric dancers and Mexican bandas.
