Six Flags to raise money for Special Olympics with 'Solar Plunge'

Six Flags Great America in Gurnee is teaming up with Special Olympics to host a fundraiser called the "Solar Plunge" on the summer solstice Friday, June 21. Like the popular "Polar Plunge" where people take a midwinter dip into freezing lakes, the water for the Solar Plunge will be icy, but that's because organizers are going to add ice. To take the plunge, participants pay a $25 registration fee and start fundraising. The more donations fundraisers collect, the more perks they get from Six Flags, like free admission and medals. Plungers will be joined by Special Olympics athletes as they crash through the waves. To register, visit sixflags.com/greatamerica/special-events/solar-plunge.
