Fire at Palatine Burger King caused by fryer

A fire caused by a commercial fryer at a Burger King in Palatine was declared under control four minutes after firefighters' arrival Wednesday morning and later ruled accidental.

No one was injured in the fire, but because of smoke and fire damage, the business at 75 W. Northwest Hwy. will remain closed until cleanup and repairs are completed, authorities said.

A monetary damage estimate was not available Thursday.

Palatine firefighters called to the restaurant at 10:07 a.m. arrived four minutes later to find smoke coming from the roof. After employees indicated that the fire was in the kitchen, firefighters quickly found a fire there involving a commercial fryer.

Crews activated the commercial fire suppression system to extinguish a majority of the fire. Multiple fire extinguishers were also used, officials said.

After a check of the rest of the building, the fire was declared under control at 10:15 a.m.

A total of 26 firefighters fought the fire, with the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District and the Rolling Meadows Fire Department also providing engines to the scene.

Palatine police officers assisted with traffic and crowd control.
