Deerfield Farmers Market returns for 28th season on Saturday
One has to get up pretty early to beat the crowd at the Deerfield Farmers Market, which kicks off its 28th season this Saturday, June 11.
In its permanent spot on Park Avenue at Deerfield Road, between Jewett Park Drive and Hazel Avenue, the market runs from 7 a.m.-12:30 p.m. every Saturday through Oct. 15, the Deerfield market's longest season to date.
On the menu this summer are fresh eggs, fish and meat, seasonal fruits and vegetables by Midwest farmers, flowers, baked goods, Wisconsin cheeses, honey, dressings and more.
Prepared foods such as crepes, coffee and hummus bowls also are among the offerings. Nonfood items include natural bath and body products and homemade pet treats.
Due to COVID-19 pandemic mitigations, during the last two years some of the Deerfield Farmers Market's traditional aspects were either scaled back or eliminated.
At this point they are scheduled to return, though some health precautions will remain, such as a one-way flow of shoppers, social distancing and widely spaced vendors.
Bicycles are not allowed inside the market space, but this season customers may bring their dog provided it is on a leash that's 6 feet or less.
Returning market activities include live music, children's activities, civic group participation and the occasional special event.
On opening day this Saturday, Go Green Deerfield will discuss how to start a garden from 10 a.m.-noon, and the children's entertainer RC Juggles will do his "balloon sculpting and bubble entertainment."
Singer-songwriter Lauren Doherty will play children's tunes from 9:30-10:15 a.m., then switch to more adult songs from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
The market on June 18 features a Pride celebration; a full roster of entertainment.
