Schaumburg parks offer plenty to do on days off from school

From winter hikes to indoor splashing, there is plenty to do at the Schaumburg Park District on days off from school.

Students attending Schaumburg School District 54 schools will have a half day on Thursday, Jan. 14 and a day off on Friday, Jan. 15, for parent-teacher conferences. Schools also are closed Monday, Jan. 18, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Park district hours and activities include:

• Open swim, from noon to 8 p.m. Jan. 15 and Jan. 18, at The Water Works, 505 N. Springinsguth Road. Admission is $5 for youth residents ages 3 to 17, $7 for youth nonresidents, $7 for adult residents and $9 for adult nonresidents.

• Youth Open Basketball, 3 to 5:30 p.m., Jan. 14 and 3 to 6 p.m., Jan. 15, at Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road. Nonmember cost is $4 for residents and $8 for nonresidents.

• Grounds and trails are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Jan. 14 and 15 and Jan. 18, at Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road. Nature Center exhibits and museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Snowshoe rental is available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. On-site rental cost is $4 for three hours.

• Friday Tot Lot, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, Jan. 15, at The Sport Center, 1141 W. Irving Park Road. Drop-in fee is $5 per family, (ages 1-6).
