Duquesne overtakes Loyola of Maryland 65-60

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Tarin Smith scored 13 points, Emile Blackman hauled in a career-best 10 rebounds, and Duquesne held off Loyola of Maryland for a 65-60 win in the season opener for both teams Friday night.

Trailing by two midway through the second half, Duquesne took the lead for good with a 3-pointer from Spencer Littleson that made it 49-48 with 10:35 to play. Eric James padded the advantage with a pair of free throws and then a layup after a Loyola turnover.

Duquesne trimmed the gap to 53-52 on a free throw from Jarred Jones but couldn't overtake the Greyhounds down the stretch.

Jones and Andre Walker led Loyola with 21 points apiece. Jones also had 11 rebounds.

Duquesne was 24 of 58 (41.4 percent) from the field, hitting just two of its 13 shots from 3-point range, and held Loyola to 36.5 percent shooting.
