For the sake of their party, perhaps?

You published a letter recently that came from a Republican who lived in Wayne. Like so many other diehards that support the GOP, he prefers to live in a separate reality that bears little resemblance to today's world.

He wants to make America great again - is that code for supporting a white, bigoted loudmouth who has the gift of a showman but the character flaws of a snake oil salesman?

Maybe this particular Republican simply longs for the days of high unemployment, a senseless war in Iraq and the beginnings of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. (All under a Republican administration.) And, incidentally, a much higher rate of aliens crossing our borders.

In answer to his question, "How can a Republican not support the party's candidate and how dare they turn over the election to a Democrat?"

For starters - how about for the sake of their party? The sake of their country?

The future of their grandchildren? That's how!
