District 212 Stages Annual Halloween Instrumental Concert
In keeping with the holiday, performers will be in costume and the auditorium will be decorated for Halloween. The music continues the theme with ghostly melodies, fantastic fantasies and thematic tunes about villains and heroes. This year's seasonal selections include "The Witch and the Saint," "Moon Dance," "Pirates of the Caribbean," and "The Haunted Carousel".
The concert features students from both campuses, including those in the orchestra, and symphonic and concert bands. The guest artist for this concert is Mark Ponzo, Professor of Trumpet at Northern Illinois University and an acclaimed recording artist. He will perform The Carnival of Venice with the Symphonic Band students.
"The Halloween Concert is an exciting way to kick off our series of on-campus instrumental music concerts during the school year," Miller says. "Complete with entertaining musical themes, costumes, and seasonal decorations, it is a favorite for students and community members alike. Our auditorium is typically packed for this event, which is great for our student performers because it rewards their hard work."
This combined production will be conducted by Leyden Music Department teachers Bryan Miller and Michelle Vazquez.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Bryan Miller, bmiller@leyden212.org and 847-451-3049.
