District 54 adopts balanced $226 million budget

Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 officials have adopted the budget for the new school year, which includes $225.9 million of spending and $226.9 million in revenues.

The budget features no new debt, keeping the district debt-free as it's been since 2011.

District 54 will continue its freeze on spending in supplies, purchased services and capital outlay.

The only exceptions are in the operations and maintenance fund, where the costs of services like electricity can't be controlled by the district, and in the education fund for new textbooks and technology.

Benefit costs in the district are projected to increase by about 3 percent annually.
