Hawthorn Woods awarded $15,000 to buy and plant trees
Hawthorn Woods has received a $15,000 grant to buy and plant 28 trees in support of a planting program along the newly-established Hawthorn Heritage Outdoor Museum Trail at Community Park. Funding is through the Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program via the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and administered by the Morton Arboretum in Lisle. The award is intended to improve the health, diversity, and equitable distribution of trees in the Chicago region to benefit people and communities. The recently dedicated Phoebe Snetsinger Memorial Garden is the first of several horticultural installments to be implemented along the trail to commemorate people involved in the historical development of the village.
