Allen Busse worthy of remembrance
Elk Grove Village's Mayor Johnson has announced that the Allen Busse farm will be developed.
Unfortunately the Herald article and apparently the mayor did not talk about the Busse family. In this case it was the farm of Allen Busse. I first met Allen in the fall of 1969, he was a one of the many volunteer firefighters that continued to make themselves available in the early days as the Elk Grove fire department was becoming a professional paid department.
Sometimes volunteers don't get along well with the paid firefighters during the transition period but this was not the case in Elk Grove Village and in my case especially with Allen.
I had five of my eight children at the time and Allen often had special bags of produce for me. At Halloween it was an invitation to bring the kids over to pick pumpkins, climb on the tractors, etc.
Driving down Higgins and remembering a great man is more important then the last farm being developed and worthy of a remembrance.
