District 89 names new principal at Westfield Elementary
Glen Ellyn Elementary District 89 has appointed a new principal for Westfield Elementary School.
Matt McDonald will take the helm July 1. The school board unanimously approved his hiring Monday.
For the past nine years, McDonald has been the assistant principal at Marquardt Middle School in Glendale Heights.
District 89 Superintendent Emily Tammaru called him a dedicated educator.
“The teams of teachers and parents that met him in the interview process were very impressed with his calm demeanor, careful listening skills, and passion for working with kids,” Tammaru said in a statement.
McDonald replaces Stacey Hewick, who was named the principal at Carl Sandburg Elementary School in Wheaton.
The son of a teacher and principal in Texas, McDonald began his career at Partners for Success alternative school in Addison. McDonald also spent eight years at Hadley Junior High in Glen Ellyn teaching science and math.
McDonald has degrees from Wheaton College and Northern Illinois University. He lives in Warrenville with his wife and their four children.
