Perfect Prairie finish takes double OT for Antioch
Jasmine Sangster scored a game-high 26 points for Grant's girls basketball team, but North Suburban Prairie champ Antioch managed to edge the visiting Bulldogs 71-69 in double overtime on Friday to complete divisional play with a perfect record.
The Sequoits' Maddy Murillo finished with 14 points and had the decisive basket at the buzzer of the second OT.
Ashley Reiser led Antioch (24-4, 12-0) with 17 points and 11 assists and forced the first OT with a 3 at the buzzer.
Erika Gallimore finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds for Antioch, Amy Reiser finished with 13 points and Alexis Duehr scored 9 points to go with 7 rebounds and 4 assists.
Ally Mahinay scored 15 points for Grant (13-13, 7-5), which lost for the sixth time in tis last seven games. Mallory Harrity finished with 12 for the Bulldogs.
Lakes 51, Round Lake 16: On senior night for the host Eagles, Ellie Haviland led the way with 13 points and 4 rebounds as Lakes wrapped up NSC Prairie play with a decisive victory.
The Eagles are 17-12 overall and 8-4 in the division. The 17 wins ties the program record for wins in a season in coach Brian Phelan's first season, and the Eagles' second-place Prairie finish ties it best-ever placement.
Haviland also contributed 5 season and 3 assists.
"On senior night, senior Ellie Haviland led by example," Phelan said. "She is our only senior and has been a pleasure to coach all season. She worked hard in the off-season, and that dedication paid off. She has been playing good basketball all year and has been a great role model."
Natalie Iacopetti contributed 11 points and 5 steals for Lakes, and Paule Ceneac had 7 points along with 2 blocks.
Wauconda 62, Vernon Hills 45: Wauconda's girls basketball team had four players score in double figures in a victory over host Vernon Hills in North Suburban Prairie play.
Corrina Vaughan led the Bulldogs (14-11, 6-6) with 17 points. Allie Tylka and Katie Rossetti had 14 apiece, and Michaela Kimbell had a pair of 3s and finished with 10 points after shooting 100 percent from the field and foul line.
"Corrina Vaughan played like a woman on a mission tonight," said Wauconda coach Jaime Dennis. "Not even a box-and-one put on her in the second half could stop her."
Kayla Caudle led Vernon Hills (15-11, 7-5) with 17 points and 7 rebounds, and Becky Bahlmann finished with 9 points.
Grayslake North 56, Crystal Lake Central 27: Senior guard Alyssa Gunn led a balanced scoring effort with 10 points as host Grayslake North handled Crystal Lake Central 56-27 on Friday in Fox Valley Fox Division girls basketball.
Kelley O'Brien had 9 points, Sidney Lovitsch had 8, Abbey Stinner had 7 and Brandi Thibeaux and Savannah Guenther both had 6 for the Knights.
Grayslake North (15-11, 7-4) limited Crystal Lake Central to 3 points in the first quarter. Kathleen Penz paced the Tigers with 9 points.
