Not the independence our founders imagined
Just want to share a holiday recap of our state legislators' recent achievements. Our representatives found the way forward under the leadership of a new governor and approved the so-called "Rebuild Illinois" spending plan. You and I pay for this plan immediately and for many years to come.
Please note when you filled the gas tank on the way to the fireworks show the additional 19-cent a gallon fuel tax. Yikes.
And next year when you renew your license plates or slip into that coveted garage or parking lot spot, you will be amazed by those cost increases. Wow.
If you want, you can grab a smoke to consider the up charges but prepare to ante up an extra $1 per pack for the cigs. Oh and speaking of ante up. You can win some of your hard-earned tax dollars back at one of the six new Illinois casinos to be opened soon. All good.
Our politicians say do not worry, the list of road and transportation projects to be funded by the tax increases will be worth it. Unfortunately no one has seen the final list and exact costs of those projects yet.
If this seems like too much to bear, relief can quickly be found by visiting your local marijuana shop to pick up some Panama Red, which is now legal, and head to Cloud Nine. Should be safe and comfy up there.
Somehow, I don't think this is what our Founding Fathers envisioned.
