Buffalo Grove employees honored by professional organization

A pair of Buffalo Grove public works employees were honored this month by the Chicago Metropolitan Chapter of the American Public Works Association for their commitment to their professions.

Deputy Director of Public Works Mike Skibbe received the organization's Young Leader Award, which formally recognizes active members who are under 35

"While this is an individual award, it really speaks to the benefits for young professionals to work in a progressive municipality such as the Village of Buffalo Grove; we continue to pursue technical innovations," Skibbe said in a news release. "Every day I'm empowered by our management team to pursue new solutions, streamline the services we provide, and have the opportunity to lead through local consortiums and international organizations like APWA and (American Water Works Association)."

Village Civil Engineer Mark Biederwolf was honored with the Samuel A. Greeley Award, which is presented to individuals who have served a public agency for 30 years or more and have displayed honorable character.

"I am very honored to have been recognized," Biederwolf said. "Over the 31 years I have worked for the village, I have been privileged to work alongside true professionals within a great organization."

Village Manager Dane Bragg added to the praise for Skibbe and Biederwolf.

"We as a village are proud of the hard work and diligence that both Mike Skibbe and Mark Biederwolf consistently demonstrate through the performance in their roles at the Village of Buffalo Grove," Bragg said. "Their contribution to Buffalo Grove is outstanding and I congratulate them for receiving these prestigious awards."
