Laughable loopholes in tax freeze plan

Your May 31, front-page above-the-fold-story "2-year tax levy freeze?" is hilarious. It is stated in the article, "Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago pushed two property-tax freeze measures through the Senate Tuesday.

One would freeze property tax levies for school districts, but they'd be able to seek a waiver from the Illinois State Board of Education. The other would freeze taxes for other government bodies with exceptions to allow them to pay down debt and make contributions to employees' pensions."

This is a joke, right? I hope so because if this is the best the Democrats in Springfield can do, they may as well stay home. This is like me declaring that I'm on a diet with exceptions for doughnuts and chocolate sundaes.
