Volunteers count 84 bats flying out of Terre Haute school
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - A Vigo County Health Department official says volunteers have counted 84 bats flying out of a Terre Haute school where the flying mammals have hit a custodian in the head and another worker in the chest.
Health Department Administrator Joni Wise says the bats were counted Wednesday night coming out of Sarah Scott Middle School. She tells WTHI-TV (http://bit.ly/2b00dSp ) volunteers also will count the bats Thursday night. Crews will then take the two sets of numbers to get an average.
The Vigo County School Corp. has temporarily closed the school and moved students and teaches elsewhere until the bats are removed from the school. Superintendent Dan Tanoos has said the closure will extend into next week.
A pest control company has been hired to remove the bats.
