Vernon Hills, Wauconda fall in Class 3A regional finals
Vernon Hills' playoff road ended at Elmwood Park, where Ridgewood outlasted the Cougars 52-45 in overtime to decide a Class 3A boys basketball regional.
Ridgewood (16-12) advanced to a 7 p.m. Tuesday semifinal in the sectional it is hosting. Ridgewood is the No. 4 seed and will face top-seeded North Chicago.
Ridgewood's Zac Rzewnicki led all scorers with 18 points, and teammate Josh Carrasquillo contributed 14.
No. 5 Vernon Hills (15-16) got 12 apiece from Michael Dougherty and Jay Holloway.
At St. Patrick: The host school, seeded No. 2 in the Ridgewood sectional, was too much for visiting Wauconda in Class 3A regional final play.
St. Patrick prevailed 87-44 to earn a spot in the Ridgewood sectional semifinals at 7 p.m. Wednesday against No. 8 Antioch.
No. 11 Wauconda (11-16) saw its season-best three-game winning streak snapped while St. Patrick improved to 15-14.
Jarod Stonis led Wauconda with 13 points, including a pair of 3s.
Dylan Latiolais finished with 9 and also had two 3s, and Bryan Nee had 7 points after a 5-for-6 effort at the foul line.
