Parolee charged after battering ex-girlfriend in Elgin

A man on parole is accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's apartment in Elgin and assaulting her, police said.

Terrance B. Marshall, 36, of the 16000 block of Laflin Street in Markham, was charged with one count of felony home invasion and is being held on $200,000 bail, police said.

Police responded to a call at 11:57 p.m. Saturday on the 1200 block of Amanda Circle and found that a man had pushed his way into an apartment and beat a female resident, causing serious facial injuries. The man, later identified as Marshall, fled before officers arrived, police said.

The two had been dating but the woman recently broke off the relationship, Deputy Bill Wolf said. Marshall never lived in the Elgin apartment, he said.

Elgin detectives worked with Rockford police and Marshall was arrested in Cherry Valley.
