Downers Grove cops pursuing arson suspect
Downers Grove police were searching Friday for a 52-year-old man suspected of setting his own house on fire on the 1700 block of Virginia Street and triggering soft lockdowns at four elementary schools and Downers Grove North High School.
Even after the lockdown was lifted, Downers Grove Elementary District 58 decided to not have outdoor recess during the afternoon.
Police spokesman Bill Budd said the man is not believed to be a danger to anyone, but authorities are concerned for his safety.
Police say the man is while, stands about 5 feet, 4 inches tall and has brown hair. He was last seen wearing a dark coat and white hooded sweatshirt or white knit hat.
Anyone who sees him should call 911 and not approach him.
The Daily Herald is not naming the suspect because he has not been charged.
