Collinsville councilwoman resists calls to quit over credit

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A Collinsville City Council member is resisting calls from colleagues to step down over her personal use of a municipal credit card while working as the southwestern Illinois city's clerk.

The Belleville News-Democrat (bit.ly/1Ld9Id1 ) reports that two council members called for Cheryl Brombolich to resign her elected position Monday night. Brombolich previously told the newspaper that she has "absolutely no intention" of stepping aside.

Documents released as part of a public records lawsuit show that Brombolich sent text messages to the city's finance director asking to not report her use of the tax-free city account.

Collinsville officials say Brombolich has repaid more than $3,300 in personal credit charges. She was elected to the council in April 2015, seven months after resigning as clerk and city operations director.
