Girls water polo: Prospect, Conant meet for sectional title

The rematch is set.

The Mid-Suburban League's girls water polo divisional champions will meet again at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hoffman Estates, this time with a trip to the state tournament at stake.

Top-seeded Prospect defeated Hersey 8-5 on Friday in the sectional semifinals, and second-seeded Conant edged Barrington 5-4.

Against the Fillies, the Cougars (21-8) led 5-1 after the third quarter and managed to protect their lead. Aly Wooley led the scoring effort with 3 goals; Paulina Chowaniec and Nia Tsoulos had 1 goal apiece and Cam Rosas stopped 11 shots. Both Rosa and Olivia Olszewski had 4 steals.

Andrea Potgieter led Barrington (21-8) with 2 goals, and Jackie West and Emily Schulze had 1 each.

Prospect (22-6) advanced by topping the MSL East's runner-up team. Hersey (20-6) suffered half of its losses this season against the Knights.

Prospect and Conant met in the Mid-Suburban League championship game last week, with Conant hanging on for a 5-4 victory.

• In the Deerfield sectional, top-seeded Stevenson advanced with a 21-3 victory against Buffalo Grove (10-14). The Bison got 2 goals from Dasha Yermol and 1 from Sarah Harner.
