Learn about origins of the Teddy Bear

German historian Anette Isaacs returns to the Des Plaines History Center, 781 Pearson St., to present the Coffee Talk "The Woman behind the Teddy Bear" from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10.

Isaacs will relate the story of Margarete Steiff, a German seamstress who overcame sickness and challenges to bring the world one of its most cherished stuffed animals. Learn how Steiff turned her tiny workshop into one of the most recognizable international brands during the male-dominated world of the 19th century.
