Old Grand Avenue in Gurnee to remain closed until Jan. 15
A portion of Old Grand Avenue in Gurnee will be closed for another 11 days for maintenance work on a railroad bridge over the street.
The Canadian Pacific Railroad expects the work to be completed by Friday, Jan. 15.
Village officials said the bridge maintenance project requires an entire closure of Old Grand between O'Plaine Road and North 1st Street to ensure the safety of the public and provide Canadian Pacific work crews access to the site. The work includes repairs to concrete ballast retention walls and the addition of a self-supported walkway for the safety of train crews operating at night.
Access to Viking Middle School and Viking Park will remain open throughout the project via eastbound Old Grand Avenue and O'Plaine Road.
