Generosity appreciated
On Thursday, Oct. 6, American Legion Post 1247 emerged from a COVID-induced hiatus to host its first monthly (fall/winter) Bingo night in two years at the Vernon Hills Golf Club.
Among those in attendance was a group of seven young women who identified themselves as "Hawthorn Moms." Their obvious exuberance surely added to the enjoyment we hope was had by all who were there.
After conclusion of the session and most players had departed, this group approached our Post service officer, Jim Schultz, and gave him $51.25, which may have represented the group's entire winnings from the evening's games. He was instructed that the money was being given as a donation to Post 1247, for use in its ongoing charitable works.
This letter is intended as a public acknowledgement of the generosity of the Hawthorn Moms, and an expression of sincere thanks on behalf of the members of American Legion Post 1247.
