Softball: ACC opens 2A playoffs with no-hitter
Aurora Central Catholic 15, Westmont 0: The pitching staff for the Chargers (27-7) did not allow a single hit, as the offense propelled ACC to the Class 2A regional final Friday. Dani Brown got the win for ACC, allowing no hits and no runs over 3 innings, striking out eight and walking none. Izzy Hernandez threw one inning in relief. Lizzie Albert and Isabel Gonzalez led the attack for the Chargers with 3 hits each. ACC will play the winner of Wednesday's matchup between Walther Christian and Timothy Christian at home on Friday.
Cary-Grove 14, Prairie Ridge 6: The Wolves got on the board early with a 4-run first inning, but Cary-Grove (17-10) prevailed. Emma Hill, Katy Wierczorek and Emma Hill led the offense with 2 hits a piece. Hill also earned the win for the Trojans, allowing 7 hits and 6 runs, striking out six and walking one in a complete game effort.
Hampshire 10, Crystal Lake Central 7: The Whip-Purs (13-17) snagged a late lead and defeated Crystal Lake Central on Tuesday. The game was tied at five with the Whip-Purs batting in the bottom of the sixth when Miki Snider drew a walk, scoring one run. Shai-Ann Currie pitched Hampshire to victory, surrendering 3 runs on 5 hits over 3⅔ innings, striking out four and walking none. Snider hit a home run for the Whip-Purs, while Katie Del Re, Sarah Bowen, and Alyssa Cork each added 3 hits.
Oswego 9, Rosary 1: The Royals were unable to contain Oswego's hot bats, and could not generate enough offense to rally a comeback. Brooke Capparelli took the loss for Rosary (7-15).
Wheaton North 5, St. Charles North 4: It came down to the last play, but St. Charles North (7-12) was on the wrong end of a 5-4 loss to Wheaton North. The game was tied at four with Wheaton North batting in the bottom of the seventh, and an error scored the winning run. Megan DeMeyer started the game for St. Charles North, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits and striking out five in 5 innings of work. Grace Sobieski led the offense for the North Stars with 3 hits in 4 at-bats.
Marengo 14, Burlington Central 3: Marengo hopped out to an early lead, and never looked back. Alisyn Catenacci took the loss for Burlington Central (15-9), striking out two. Kate Snow had a long ball in the third inning, one of her two hits.
Kaneland 11, Morris 0: McKenna Ryan only gave up 3 hits and held Morris scoreless. Donatela Sommesi led the offense, going 4-for-5 at the plate for the Knights (27-6).
Glenbard South 11, Streamwood 2: Ariana Wolfard took the loss for Streamwood (13-8), allowing 14 hits and 11 runs over 7 innings, striking out five and walking one. Taylyr Crocilla led the offense for the Sabres with 2 hits in 3 at-bats.
South Elgin 15, East Aurora 0: South Elgin (24-6) was led to a big win by Sammy Jimenez who went 4-for-4 at the plate. Jimenez doubled in the first, singled in the second, singled in the third, and singled in the fourth. Angelina Guido was the winning pitcher for the Storm. She surrendered zero runs on 4 hits over 4 innings, striking out six and walking zero.
Dundee-Crown 1, Hoffman Estates 0: Caleigh Gertz threw a gem on Tuesday for Dundee-Crown (8-19), allowing no runs and besting Hoffman Estates. The Chargers scored the only run they needed in the second inning when Gertz singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
West Aurora 17, Elgin 0: The Maroons (4-21) did not manage a single hit, and could not contain West Aurora in a tough loss in Upstate Eight Conference action. Eternity Gonzalez threw the no-hitter for the Blackhawks and Aaliyah Morales suffered the loss for Elgin.
Larkin 10, West Chicago 7: The offense was solid and consistent for Larkin (6-16) and Kailey Cronin went to work in the circle, striking out five and walking one, surrendering 7 runs on 9 hits in a complete game. Leading the Royals offense was Katie Turner, who went 2-for-2 with an RBI, Kiara Villa with a double and 2 runs scored, and Ariela Bermudez, who went 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored.
