'Toss for a Cause' aids Batavia Parks Foundation

Grab a partner and "Toss for a Cause" at the Batavia Parks Foundation's annual fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at the Eastside Community Center, 14 N. Van Buren St., in Batavia.

The cost is $50 per team of two, ages 21 and older, which includes a minimum of three games, adult beverages, snacks, and prizes to first- and second-place teams.

Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Batavia Parks Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting community and quality of life for all citizens by acquiring and distributing resources that enhance opportunities and advocate stewardship for open space, parks, facilities and recreational programs within the Batavia Park District.

Since its inception in 2005, the Batavia Parks Foundation has raised more than $500,000 in funds and completed a number of capital projects. They continue to search for ways to raise funds and to complete projects that will enhance the community.

Past projects include the return of the Spacenet in 2010, the Peg Bond Center Performing Arts Pavilion in 2011, the funding of equipment for an 18-hole Disc Golf Course in 2013, the renovation of the boardwalk at the Batavia Riverwalk in 2014, and the funding of a bulldog statue that serves as the base for the district's Pet Memorial Program in 2015.

The parks foundation also was one of three community organizations responsible for the Bulldogs Unleashed project.
