Andrews, Doyle, Frazier AP first team all-state

Three of the five selections to The Associated Press Class 4A girls basketball all-state team are also honorary captains of Daily Herald All-Area teams.

Huntley senior Ali Andrews, Benet senior Kathleen Doyle and Batavia senior Hannah Frazier were named to the first team in Class 4A, voted on by a panel of statewide sports writers and broadcasters and compiled by John Radtke of the Daily Herald.

Andrews was the only unanimous choice to the first team, amassing the maximum 90 points. The 6-foot-2 Illinois recruit led the Red Raiders to a 30-4 season and their third supersectional appearance in four years. She averaged 21.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.4 steals and 2.2 blocks per game this season and scored 2,548 points in her career as well as grabbing over 1,000 rebounds.

In leading defending state champion Benet back to Redbird Arena and the Final Four this weekend the 5-10 Doyle, who will play at Nebraska, averaged 17 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals per game for the 30-3 Redwings, who take on Trinity in the 8:15 p.m. state semifinal Friday.

The 6-2 Frazier, who will play at St. Louis University, was the leader of a 26-6 Batavia team that won a regional championship. She averaged 22.3 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, scored 2.089 career points and had over 1,000 career rebounds.

The Daily Herald-area trio is joined on the first team by Whitney Young senior Kiara Lewis and New Trier senior Jeannie Boehm.

Downers Grove North senior Jaida Green and Fremd senior Bryana Hopkins each were selected to the second team, where they are joined by Rock Island freshman Brea Beal, Edwardsville sophomore Rachel Pranger and Trinity senior Kaitlin Alyward.

Barrington senior Megan Talbot, Geneva junior Grace Loberg, Montini senior Lea Kerstein, Benet senior Elise Stout, Fremd senior Brianna Lewis and Conant junior Jorie Wachal were among those who earned honorable mention recognition.

In Class 3A, the only area player to earn a Top 10 vote was Burlington Central senior Kayla Ross, who was selected to the second team.

The Class 3A first team selections were Champaign St. Thomas More senior Tori McCoy, Morgan Park junior Destiny Harden, Joliet Catholic senior Nicole Ekhomu, Jacksonville senior Olivia Kaufmann and West Frankfort junior Morgan Griffith.

The second team in Class 3A includes Litchfield junior Abby Brockmeyer, Stillman Valley junior Macy Weaver, Civic Memorial junior Allie Troeckler, Peoria junior Jailynn Lawson and Burlington Central's Ross.

Honorable mention selections in Class 3A include Burlington Central senior Sam Pryor, Hampshire senior Emma Benoit, and Antioch junior Ashley Reiser.
