Lake Zurich starts with victory at Pekin
Peter DiCerbo's 15 points led a balanced attack, and Lake Zurich's boys basketball team opened the Pekin Insurance Holiday Tournament with a 53-42 win over United Township on Wednesday morning.
Lake Zurich (7-3) also got 12 points from Ryan Kutsor, 10 from J.R. Cison and nine from Will Tucker, who hit three 3-pointers in 5 attempts. Kutsor was 2 of 2 from three-point range.

Lake Zurich trailed 14-10 after one quarter, then outscored UT 18-7 in the second. Lake Zurich's led was trimmed to 41-36 after three, but the Bears outscored the Panthers 12-6 in the fourth to secure the win.
Lake Zurich plays Normal West at 9 a.m. Thursday.
Wauconda 75, North Boone 36: At Marengo, Connor Brannick had 11 points and 4 steals, Matt O'Brien drained three 3-pointers and also scored 11 points, and the Bulldogs got their first win in the E.C. Nichols Holiday Tournament.
Donovan Carter added 10 points (two 3-pointers) for Wauconda (3-8, 1-1 tourney). Matthew Nolan (5 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals) and Jimmy Ott (3-pointer) each had 9 points in the win.
Wauconda plays Geneseo at noon Thursday.
Elgin 64, Round Lake 44: At Marengo, the Panthers fell to 0-2 in the E.C. Nichols Holiday Tournament, despite 16 points from Lucas Hollingsworth.
Chris Pierre added 10 points, including a 3-pointer, for Round Lake (0-11), which plays Woodstock North at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Niles North 64, Vernon Hills 32: At Wheeling, in the opening game of the Hardwood Classic, the Vikings got 16 points, including four 3-pointrs, from Dravon Clayborn.
Payton Foster had 8 points for Vernon Hills (3-8), which was held to single digits in each quarter.
Vernon Hills plays Dundee-Crown at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Grant 45, Addison Trail 42: At Jacobs, Torren Curry scored 14 points, hitting four 3-pointers, and the Bulldogs snapped a two-game losing streak in the Hinkle Holiday Classic.
Grant (4-7, 2-2 tourney) trailed 23-19 at halftime, but outscored the Trail Blazers 11-9 in the third quarter and 15-10 in the fourth.
Lakes 55, Payton Prep 45: At Jacobs, Logan McCann scored 21 points and the Eagles got their first win in the Hinkle Holiday Classic.
Michael Behrendt added 14 points, including four 3-pointers, for Lakes (4-8), which snapped a five-game losing streak. Brad Cherry had 9 points in the win.
