Northlight Theatre announces new season
The Northlight Theatre in Skokie announced its 2016-2017 season Tuesday, including three world and two Midwest premieres.
The season kicks off Sept. 15 with "The City of Conversation," a critically acclaimed political family drama that's now in development to be an FX miniseries. The drama, by Anthony Giardina, runs through Oct. 23.
Next up is the imagined "Pride and Prejudice" sequel, "Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley." Running Nov. 10 to Dec. 18, the world premiere by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon focuses on middle sister Mary.
That's followed by another world premiere, "Faceless," by emerging playwright Selina Fillinger. In the play, running Jan. 26 to March 5, 2017, a teenager goes on trial for conspiring to commit acts of terrorism.
Sharyn Rothstein's "By the Water," in its Midwest premiere, runs March 16 through April 23, 2017. It focuses on a couple facing devastation and betrayal in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
Wrapping up the season is "Relativity," by Mark St. Germain, the playwright behind the long-running "Freud's Last Session." Exploring the mysterious circumstances around Albert Einstein's daughter, the drama runs May 11 to June 18, 2017.
The Northlight Theatre is under the direction of Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans.
"Each play embodies a central part of Northlight's mission: to promote change of perspective and encourage compassion," Jones said in a statement. "We're proud to continue introducing new work and new voices to our audience, an important role in enhancing the increasingly rich landscape of Chicago theater."
Subscriptions range in price from $99 to $250, and are available starting in May. For information, go to northlight.org or call (847) 673-6300.
