Girls soccer: Jacobs dumps Huntley
The Jacobs girls soccer team continues to soar, as the Golden Eagles grabbed their seventh win of the season with a 3-2 win over Huntley in Fox Valley Conference action Thursday.
Maddie Belo had 2 goals while Dominque Anderson chipped in 1. All Golden Eagle goals came in the first half and Jacobs (7-2-2, 2-1) withstood a Huntley rally by Taylor Kaufman in the 38th minute and Brenna Keegan, who capped the scoring with a 49th minute PK. Huntley (4-5-1, 0-3) also had an assist by Savanna Zoellner and Jenna Franklin and Ashley Lovins had 3 saves each in net. Jacobs will battle Eisenhower for the PepsiCo Showdown U.S. Marine Corps championship Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lyons Township High School in LaGrange.
Cary-Grove 4, Dundee-Crown 0: Kailyn Sheehan totaled 1 goal and 1 assist in a FVC win over the Chargers (5-7, 2-2). The Trojans (4-2-2, 3-1) received goals from Maggie Mason, Summer Curtis and Jenna Stayart while Kelly Stayart and Katie Glowinski provided assists. Goalkeeper Sydney Schmidt recorded a shutout for C-G with 4 saves.
St. Edward 4, Elmwood Park 0: In Metro Suburban action, Rachel Martini's hat trick led the Green Wave (6-2-1, 3-0) to victory. Madison Knott provided 1 goal and 1 assist while Katie Ellsworth served up 2 assists. Madalynn Duffy also had 1 assist and keeper Mariel Franco turned in an 8-save shutout.
Prairie Ridge 3, CL South 2: The Gators watched their crosstown rival stay undefeated both overall and in conference with a decisive goal in the 73rd minute of this FVC showdown. Jasmine Lopez and Lilli Sisler each scored their first varsity goals while Emma Chudik had 1 assist for Crystal Lake South (4-5, 1-1). South goalkeeper Marissa Fetters stopped an incredible 14 shots.
Kaneland 8, Rochelle 0: The Knights (5-1-1) won this NI Big XII crossover in grand fashion as Rachael Lutter led the way with 2 goals and 2 assists. Gaby Faletto and Mallory Burgin each had 1 goal and 1 assist and Sasha Clinnin, Abbie Lomahan, Linsday Penkala, Bailey Prichard all scored goals. Taylor Carlson also had 1 assist for Kaneland, who was up 6-0 at the half.
Harvest Christian 1, IMSA 0: Emma Stotz's first half goal for the Lions (5-5-1, 3-0) was the only goal of the game in Northeastern Athletic action. Taylor Keeran provided the game-winning assist and keeper Isa Garcia's 7-save shutout consisted of a PK stop.
