Letter: Let Bears pay to move

This is in reply to the Aug. 30 letter from Kathy Lieb regarding the poll conducted with regards to local tax dollars to be used to help fund the Bears' proposed new stadium in Arlington Heights. Ms. Lieb is attempting to make this political by stating the poll was conducted by a "conservative/libertarian" foundation.

Makes no difference to me who conducted the poll, which by the way, never reached out to me. However, I want absolutely none of my money given to the Bears. If they want to come to our village, then come on over, but build the stadium on your dime, not mine.

The true facts are, the owner of the property, Churchill Downs Inc. did nothing to keep the facility up or make any improvements to the structure. Furthermore, given the fact that CDI reached out to the Bears rather than vice-versa in order to secure the bid simply shows that CDI cares nothing about Illinois horsemen, the village of Arlington Heights and the state of racing in Illinois.

So, based on this information, I would not be willing to part with any village money for this project and if that means the Bears do not come to Arlington Heights, not one tear will fall from my eyes.
