Hoffman Estates man gets 12 years for dropping, shaking infant
A Hoffman Estates man found guilty of dropping and shaking an infant has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Daniel J. Bryant, 38, was sentenced this week after his conviction last month for aggravated battery to a child causing permanent disability and aggravated battery to a child causing bodily harm. He must complete at least 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
At his 2017 bond hearing, prosecutors said Bryant dropped the baby onto a hardwood floor and into a crib. He also shook the then 7-month-old girl and swung her four times, which caused a subdural hematoma - a buildup of blood on the surface of her brain. Doctors subsequently placed the baby in a medically induced coma, said authorities, who did not disclose the girl's current medical condition.
