Cook County offering up to $65 million in grants to reduce gun violence

The Cook County Justice Advisory Council is accepting applications for 2022 Gun Violence Prevention & Reduction grants.

The grant program, funded by the federal American Rescue Plan Act, is designed as a robust response to the high levels of gun violence experienced in certain areas of the county, coinciding with the COVID-19 pandemic. Up to $65 million may be awarded during this grant cycle.

Grants are available for both large and small programs that prevent or reduce instances of gun violence. Funding will support a variety of violence prevention strategies, including mental health and employment services, street outreach and case management, as well as other services which support residents at risk of being involved in community violence.

Applications for proposals of more than $1.5 million are due by April 11. For proposals below $1.5 million, the deadline is May 9.
