Aurora man's bail set at $3 million

Bail was set at $3 million Friday for an Aurora man charged with several felonies, incuding attempted murder, after a shooting and subsequent police chase that ended in a crash Wednesday afternoon near Fox Valley Mall.

Adrien Betsinger, 23, of the 500 block of Woodlawn Avenue, also was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm while on parole and six counts of aggravated discharge.

He was a passenger in a Chevrolet Monte Carlo that fled police after the shooting on the 600 block of South Broadway. The Chevrolet, which was driven by Erik Esparza, 24, of Aurora, sped into oncoming traffic on East New York Street but stopped when it approached busy Route 59. The car crashed into multiple vehicles soon afterward. Esparza died at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

The man police say Betsinger shot suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, according to a news release.

Betsinger's next court appearance is set for March 5 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
