Baseball: St. Charles North earns win in South Carolina
Brendan Joyce and Tyler Mettetal each hit home runs Friday to lead the St. Charles North baseball team to a 7-2 win over Georgetown (SC) as the North Stars finished play on their spring trip to Myrtle Beach.
Tyler Mettetal went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI in the win while Kyle Novotney and Sam Faith had 2 hits with a double each.
Jack Lambert started and earned the win for the North Stars (3-2), whose five pitchers in the game allowed just 3 hits and struck out 9 with 1 walk.
CL South 6, Mt. Vernon 4: The Gators made the most of their 6 hits in running their record to 6-0 for the season in this win in downstate Marion. Michael Swiatly had 2 hits for Crystal Lake South, Cam Geisser a double and Keston Ryza 2 RBI. Tim Siesennop earned the win in relief of Tyler Carlson and Ethan Weinandy picked up the save.
Fairborn (OH) 6, ACC 1: Sean Siniski and losing pitcher Jake Smith had doubles for Aurora Central (5-2) in this loss at the Pounders Classic in Tennessee.
Kaneland 4, Myrtle Beach 3: The Knights won their first game of the season as Joe Laudent had 2 hits and an RBI in this victory in Myrtle Beach. Ryan David earned the win in relief of Noah Jones. Will Ring's RBI single in the top of the seventh scored Jake Marczuk with the winning run.
Westminster falls twice: The Warriors slipped to 1-7 on the season with a 12-4 loss to Goreville and a 15-1 setback to Vienna in games played in downstate Illinois. Against Goreville, Matthew Schulenberg had 2 hits for Westminster and JT Stoll added a double and an RBI. In the Vienna game, Ian Merlak had 2 hits and an RBI.
