Responders who go above and beyond

Not all stories make the front page, even though they may belong there.

A Batavia senior citizen was mowing his lawn when he had a major cardiac arrest and dropped to the ground. Luckily, someone driving by saw him and immediately called 911. An off-duty firefighter nearby immediately responded, and within minutes, local paramedics were on the scene. They were able to revive him and get him to the hospital.

After the call, one of those who responded went back on his own time and finished mowing the lawn.

Just a few doors away, another senior citizen called 911 and told the operator that the fire department should come in through the garage. When the garage door didn't work, the local paramedics fixed it before leaving.

Batavia is so fortunate to have a fire department with people who go above and beyond to serve our community.
