Cubs backup catcher Romine expected to be out several weeks

The Cubs started the regular season without backup catcher Austin Romine with a knee injury and now it looks like he'll be on the shelf even longer with a wrist issue.

The team is officially calling it a sprain, but are also saying it will be several week before he returns to baseball activities. Tony Wolters returned from South Bend a few days ago and figures to stay for a while.

"Austin got an MRI and that came back with a pretty significant tear, he's got a significant issue with the wrist," manager David Ross said. "He's going to be out a little while."

In other injury news, Kris Bryant was back in the lineup after taking a day off to rest a sore right biceps. Shortstop Javy Baez was not in the starting lineup for the third straight game with a hamstring issue. But Ross said Baez would be available off the bench Wednesday and if all goes well, should be back in the lineup Thursday.
