Arlington Heights Mayor Tom Hayes honors SALUTE, INC., for 20 years of service
Last week, Arlington Heights mayor, Tom Hayes, read a proclamation celebrating the 20th anniversaries of local nonprofits SALUTE, INC., and FamilyForward. Both organizations have been involved in the Arlington Heights community throughout their respective histories.
The event was particularly special for SALUTE, INC. as Mayor Hayes, a U.S. Army veteran, has been a big supporter of the organization during his tenure as mayor. He has participated in all of SALUTE's 5K/10K races and called the community to participate by offering to donate funds for every person who beat him in the race.
Hayes also recognized FamilyForward, another local nonprofit also celebrating 20 years of service to the community.
SALUTE provides short-term financial assistance to veterans, military personnel and their families. These funds often cover rent or mortgage expenses, utility bills, car expenses, or groceries. The organization also partners with other veterans' programs and hospitals to connect veterans with the physical rehabilitation and mental health services they deserve. In the last 20 years, SALUTE has assisted more than 21,000 veterans and military personnel and provided more than $7 million in emergency financial assistance.
The organization hosts fundraising events throughout the year, including an upcoming Veterans Day event at the Wintrust's Grand Banking Hall in Chicago. Funds are also raised by SALUTE's Bank of America Chicago Marathon team, Team SALUTE.
FamilyForward serves low-income, working families in the Northwest suburbs, helping them achieve financial independence. In addition to rent assistance, the organization also provides mentoring and support services that empower families to develop good financial management and life skills.
Last week's proclamation event was attended by Mary Beth Beiersdorf, executive director of SALUTE, INC, Tim Wayman, board chairman of FamilyForward, and Erica Chianelli, executive director of FamilyForward.
"We are so grateful for everything Mayor Hayes and the entire Arlington Heights community have done for SALUTE over the last 20 years," claimed Beiersdorf. "It was such an honor to hear Mayor Hayes reading a proclamation recognizing everything we've accomplished in the last two decades, and we were delighted to share the stage with a remarkable local nonprofit like FamilyForward. It's wonderful to see good works being done in our community - and celebrated by our community leaders."
