Girls soccer: Lake County All-Area Team

<b>Zenaya Barnes Carmel</b>The senior forward was a game-changer, scoring 14 goals and adding 5 assists. The Grambling State-bound

Barnes, who was named all-sectional, finished with 30 goals and 10 assists. "Zenaya was our target up top and was a game-changer against any team," Corsairs coach Ray Krawzak said. " 'Z' holds the ball up top better than any player I've ever coached. She takes girls on and beats them around the corner. She tore some ligaments in her knee her sophomore year and has had an incredible recovery story. She has overcome great adversity. She was our senior leader and captain."

<b>Courtney Chomko Warren</b>There was a big reason Warren had a successful run this season and the Florida Southern-bound

Chomko was a part of it all as a senior midfielder. She scored 7 goals but dished out 20 assists, a school record. She also had 30 goals and 44 assists in her four-year career. An all-State player, all-North Suburban Conference selection and Parkway College Showcase MVP. "I have received countless comments from opposing coaches and referees about how impressive Courtney was," Warren coach Ryan McCabe said. "She's a very technical player who creates many opportunities by beating players on the dribble. Courtney has a high soccer IQ and has played four different roles this season due to teammates getting injuries. More importantly, she may be the best captain I have ever had. She makes her teammates better every day, challenges herself and her teammates and accepts nothing but the best."

<b>Kayla Constabileo Stevenson</b>A big part of Stevenson's exceptional defense, this sophomore plays beyond her years and more like a senior.

Constabielo was an all-sectional player for many reasons and she was a big part of the Patriots limiting goals all season long. "A rock-solid defender with composure under pressure beyond her years," Stevenson coach PepeJon Chavez said. "Her communication and organizational skills in the back line have created a defensive culture that will last for years."

<b>Dana Devera Round Lake</b>It was a breakout season for

Devera, who helped the Panthers set a school record for victories. She also dealt with a few injuries and missed a few games but still scored 20 goals and had 5 assists as a junior. "Dana has scored very important goals for us this season especially in conference games," Round Lake coach Josue Jimenez said. "She's a very athletic player and is able to finish with both feet. A hard worker on the offensive side as well as on the defensive side to get the ball back. She puts herself in scoring opportunities and knows how to create runs."

<b>Emily Dunne Grayslake North</b>A mainstay who led the Knights from the goalkeeping position,

Dunne has done it for four years. She started 66 games in her career and helped the Knights to a 10-6-3 record this season with 7 shutouts and a second-place finish behind Wauconda in the Northern Lake County Conference. She set the school mark with 26 shutouts over her four years and set a record of goals against of 1.02. This past season she was at .84. Next fall she will be in goal at Carroll University. "She was a shot stopper who communicates well and distributes accurately, with both of her feet and her hands," Grayslake North coach Adam DeCaluwe said. "Emily was a top-notch goalkeeper, while having incredible character. Everything she does on the field, in the classroom, and throughout the community, is done with everyone else in mind, and everyone around her benefits as a result."

<b>Kendall Edwards Libertyville</b>Having a strong and experienced keeper was important for Libertyville's successful season.

Edwards had 9 clean sheets and allowed 14 goals in 18 games for a .78 goals against average. "Kendall is an amazing goalkeeper," Libertyville coach Daniel De Paz said. "She's a very athletic, strong, and intelligent goalie. These attributes combined allowed her to excel in her position. Throughout the season, Kendall made game-changing saves that allowed her team to keep their motivation to finish games strong. Kendall has also been a tremendous leader for our team. She leads by example and is always willing to be a voice for her teammates. What sets Kendall apart from others is she is not only a strong athlete and leader but she is a thoughtful individual who consistently demonstrates good character."

<b>Lauren Hansen Grayslake North</b>Being a hard worker really has a way of paying off.

Hansen showed that all year long and grew to become one of the leaders in the Knights' soccer program. She will be playing at the University of Minnesota-Duluth next fall and was an all-sectional player this spring. Hansen led the Knights with 10 goals and 6 assists this season and she had 22 goals and 16 assists in her career while on the varsity for four years. "She was a workhorse on the field, constantly working for the team," Grayslake North coach Adam DeCaluwe said. "She looked to set up her teammates as often as she looks to score. Lauren showed a willingness to adjust roles in our system this season, and she patiently waited for her opportunity to make that move. She helped the younger girls get ready for the role she was leaving. The moment she got the chance to take on her role as our center forward, she took over the games, running the channels, holding the ball up, bring her teammates into the play. She made such a difference in helping our team gain confidence and belief in our attack."

<b>Grace Hermann Grayslake Central</b>Over four years,

Hermann has learned and led by example with her experience on the field. She was productive in her senior season with 25 goals and 7 assists and will be playing soccer next fall at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. "Grace has made a huge impact during her time in the program," Grayslake Central coach Jamie Martin said. "Her scoring and assists speaks for itself within our current season. Grace has been a leader by example on and off the field."

<b>Ziggy Jezorski Vernon Hills</b>You've got to love the name Ziggy and the way she plays the game.

Jezorski has been on the varsity for three years as a starter and was a Central Suburban League all-conference player. "She has the ability to create great chances through our service that will significantly be missed in years to come," said Vernon Hills coach Mike McCaulou. "She's a fierce competitor and a quiet leader. She's looked up by all her peers and brings a confidence not only to our team, but our entire program. A very technical player out of the back and physically can take over games from the defensive positions."

<b>Savanna Johnson Wauconda</b>There are some teams that have that spark in getting their team going and

Johnson has that ability and much more. The junior midfielder had 10 goals and 8 assists this season. "Savannah was arguably the most formidable force for our team," Wauconda coach Beau Shogren said. "Her size and strength, along with deceptive speed and skill, creates matchup problems to opponents. Her ability to win headers in the final third, along with using her body to turn and create chances at goal, have been invaluable this year."

<b>Morgan Long Lake Zurich</b>Winning the battles on the field was more than half the battle for

Long. She took on a role as the Bears' defensive midfielder and handled it beyond expectations with her contribution of 7 goals and was an all-sectional player. "She was able to win the ball and help create opportunities for the offense," Lake Zurich coach Michael Castronova said. "She was very dangerous on set pieces, a physical player who usually marks the opposing team's best midfielder. Morgan leads by example and was able to provide our team with a big play when we needed it. "

<b>Abigail McHugh Wauconda</b>Not only hardworking but hard driven,

McHugh got the job done for Wauconda. McHugh earned a lot of respect picking up all-State honors along with her 3 goals and 2 assists. Had 20 goals and 16 assists in her career and will be playing at Northern Illinois University next fall. "She deserves recognition with the amount of work she has put into improving her game," Wauconda coach Beau Shogren said. "In the middle, she often gets matched up with the best players on other teams. Her ball-winning and defensive capabilities have been crucial for us this season, yet she is an incredible skill player, too. A four-year varsity starter, she has been a captain since her sophomore season."

<b>Brynn Miller Libertyville</b>Taking on a role in the midfield was a big role for Libertyville and

Miller handled it beyond expectations, helping the team's success this season. An all-sectional player. "She did a wonderful job distributing the ball, working hard and going forward to join the attack," Libertyville coach Daniel De Paz said. "Brynn's athletic skills allowed her to lead our team on the field with her determination and perseverance. What sets Brynn apart as an athlete is her commitment to the team and her true grit. She is rarely pushed or beat off a ball and continually did whatever was necessary to find success for herself and her team. As a senior, Brynn's dedication to the team will be truly missed. Her shoes will be hard to fill."

<b>Nicole Robb Mundelein</b>Milwaukee School of Engineering will be the next stop for

Robb's education and soccer career. Scored 8 goals and had 3 assists this season and 22 goals and 18 assists in her career. Was an all-sectional player. "Nicole Robb is the true definition of a box-to-box center midfielder," Mundelein coach Heather Crawford said. "She has a great balance of having a strong physical presence and being able to combine in the final third, creating multiple offensive scoring opportunities. She has the ability to play a 60-yard diagonal ball on a dime and find even the tiniest seams to play through that average players would not. Nicole has a very high soccer IQ and dominates 50/50 challenges both on the ground and in the air. As our emotional leader, Nicole has been the engine of our team and everything offensive and defensive runs through her."

<b>Gigi Sahagun Mundelein</b>The Chicago State University-bound

Sahagun had 11 goals and 5 assists this spring and 29 goals in her career. She definitely led by example as an all sectional player. "Every time Gigi gets a ball she is a dangerous scoring threat," Mundelein coach Heather Crawford said. "Her creativity in the final third is a nightmare for any defender and when she is running at a back line her ability to not only beat the first defender one-on-one, but a second and third defender in the same sequence is second to none. Gigi has an incredibly high soccer IQ and her vision on the pitch makes it easy for her to exploit spaces and create multiple scoring opportunities. She has only played high school two years because of playing academy soccer, but was quickly on the radar of every school we played last year and has embraced getting double and tripled-teamed this year, while still excelling and being a top player on the field. She is a complete player that puts in the work offensively and defensively behind the ball."

<b>Ryan Schofield Vernon Hills</b>Being a part of the Cougars for four years,

Schofield has done a lot in making Vernon Hills a better team. She's been on the Daily Herald All-Area Team, a two-time all-sectional player and CSL all-conference player. "She has been our most consistent player game in and game out," Vernon Hills coach Mike McCaulou said. "She has played almost every minute of every game her entire career. She's one of the smartest soccer players I have ever coached in terms of her decision making. Without her in our program we would have not been able to sustain the success we have had the last four years."

<b>Megan Sinnott Wauconda</b>How much does speed on a soccer field make a difference?

Sinnott has more than another gear, leading the Bulldogs against other opponents. The Purdue-Fort Wayne recruit had 16 goals and 5 assists this season and 45 goals and 18 assists over the last three years. She was also an all-sectional player. "Our offense has been at a different level with her speed, strength, and work rate that cannot be matched," Wauconda coach Beau Shogren said, "She causes a lot of problems for defenses, and teams often have to sit back a bit deeper against us to compensate. She has been an unselfish player and a great teammate. We are going to miss her infectious personality and great attitude."

<b>Jenny Staten Stevenson</b>More than a game-saver but a game-changer and one of many leaders for Stevenson's history-making success into the postseason and victories this season.

Staten, the Lake County All-Area Team Captain, was also an All-state Player. Her work ethic and ability in goal was hard to match anywhere in the state. "She's many things on the field, but at Stevenson her individual value as a balanced scholar athlete is a priority," Stevenson coach PepeJon Chavez said.

<b>Kalyssa Van Zanten Stevenson</b>Better known by many as "Kiki,"

Van Zanten came out full force in her senior season, leading Stevenson with 26 goals and 14 assists, and helping Stevenson to a new level in the postseason. Van Zanten will be playing soccer next year at Notre Dame and she earned All-state honors for more than her ability on the field. "She's been an outstanding piece to Stevenson's success," Stevenson coach PepeJon Chavez said. "She has humbly supported the team and done all that's been asked of her by the coaching staff. A player of Kiki's talent has potential to impact a team's season greatly and through her toughness and sacrifice she has done that."

<b>Alexandra Wawrzyniak Round Lake</b>

Wawrzyniak was a big part of helping build Round Lake's program the last four years. She's shown it with her ability and teaching other players. She has been on the All-Area team for four years and was an all-sectional player. As a midfielder she led the Panthers with 14 goals and 21 assists this season and racked up 50 goals and 60 assists for her career. She will be playing at the College of Lake County next year. "Alex has been the brain of the operation for these past years," Round Lake coach Josue Jimenez said. "She has great vision and knowledge. She's very knowledgeable on how she can create plays with any situation and gives excellent through balls in tight spaces. Great one-on-one skills with the ability to finish outside the box."

<b>Gracie Wingfield Stevenson</b>One of the integral parts of Stevenson's offense,

Wingfield makes things happen with a relentless style of play. She's an all-sectional player who scored 14 goals and had 5 assists. "Gracie's one-on-one attacking skills are relentless as are her efforts on the field," Stevenson coach PepeJon Chavez said. "She consistently drives at opponents and has been a key threat in our attacking system of play."

<b>Olivia Wolf Warren</b>Defending takes on a big role on the back line and

Wolf was a true leader for Warren this season. A junior who displayed a lot of talent against a number of competitive teams. She was a NSC all-conference player and a Parkway College Showcase MVP. "She does a great job controlling the middle of the back line," Warren coach Ryan McCabe said. "She can win the ball in the air, goes in hard on tackles and distributes the ball well once she has won it. She can launch our attack from free kicks or settle the game down with possession and communication. Defenders don't have flashy stats, but she has all the intangibles of a really good defender."
