Transitional Care changes name to HealthBridge Arlington Heights

Transitional Care, which opened as the first stand-alone, short-term rehabilitation center in the Northwest suburbs in 2015, on Tuesday officially transitioned to its new name, HealthBridge Arlington Heights.

Officials unveiled the new branding during a noontime event for physicians, nurses and other staff on what is the last day of National Nurses Week.

The name change comes several months after HealthBridge became the new owner/operator of the facility at 1200 N. Arlington Heights Road last July. Since then, it has expanded service offerings for patients with more complex needs, according to spokeswoman Emma Bertrand.

The rehab center specializes in treatment of brain and spinal cord injuries and other complex illnesses. To date, it has also treated 71 patients with COVID-19, successfully discharging 41 people who are now at home recovering. The other 30 remain in treatment, with plans to accommodate more in the coming weeks.

"Frankly, we opened HealthBridge Arlington Heights during this pandemic because we are made for this very type of skilled nursing and challenging work," CEO Sherri Medina said in a news release. "We provide that expertise, the essential, safe and specialized care for our patients with very complex needs, including those with COVID-19."

Transitional Care opened the $27 million, 70,000-square-foot building in July 2015 on the site of a former AT&T building.
