Naperville man charged with reckless discharge of gun
A Naperville man has been charged with felony reckless discharge of a firearm in connection with a September shooting.
Naperville police announced Friday that Levell D. Leflore, 27, of the 100 block of East Bailey Road, has also been charged with felony unlawful possession or use of a weapon when on parole.
He is accused of firing a 9 mm handgun from a convenience-store parking lot, toward a residential area, at about 9:30 p.m. Sept. 29, 2021, on East Bailey Road, according to DuPage County court records.
Police say he was in a car at the time.
Nobody was hurt.
Leflore is serving a prison sentence on a conviction for a 2019 Cook County felony aggravated fleeing/eluding police case.
In a news release, Naperville Chief Jason Arres said Leflore was arrested on Sept. 30 on an unrelated charge. But it took time to gather evidence, conduct interviews and go through other processes to obtain charges.
"I think it's important for the community to understand that, although we would like every ace to be closed right away, solving crimes and securing charges doesn't always happen quickly. However, that doesn't mean it's not a high priority for us and I can promise you we don't give up," he said in the news release.
Anyone with more information about the shooting is asked to call (630) 420-6666 and ask for the Investigations Division.
