Boomers score wild win in Joliet opener

The Schaumburg Boomers failed to hold a 5-0 lead, but Brett Milazzo's 3-run double with 2 outs in the top of the ninth directed the team to a 10-7 win over the Joliet Slammers in the series opener on Tuesday night.

Schaumburg stayed hot early. Alec Craig homered to start the game and two batters later Braxton Davidson pounded his eighth of the year to make the score 3-0. Chase Dawson recorded an RBI single in the second as the lead extended to 4-0.

The Boomers have outscored opponents 46-14 in the first three innings this year.

Dawson drove home another run in the fourth with a groundout.

Joliet took the lead with 7 unanswered runs, receiving a 3-run double from Tyler Depreta-Johnson with 2 outs in the sixth. Five straight reached with 2 outs in the ninth as the Boomers took the lead on the Milazzo double. William Salas added an RBI single to complete the comeback.

Blake Stelzer worked into the sixth in a no-decision on the hill. Kristian Scott grabbed his first win with a perfect eighth and Darrell Thompson grabbed his first save by facing the minimum in the ninth. Both teams logged double-digit hits. Dawson, Milazzo, Salas and Nick Oddo all produced a pair of hits for the Boomers (11-5).
