Dog rescued from Mundelein house fire

Firefighters rescued a family dog while battling a blaze that broke out Monday afternoon at a Mundelein home.

Firefighters responding to a residential fire alarm on Tall Grass Lane at 4:34 p.m. arrived to find smoke coming from the dryer vent at the back of the residence.

The first arriving crew pulled a hose line to the front of the structure while other firefighters connected to a nearby fire hydrant, officials said. Firefighters who entered the home to check for fire and trapped occupants located a family dog and were able to take it from the home unharmed, according to the Mundelein Fire Department.

The fire was declared under control at 5:23 p.m.

The homeowners were not home at the time of the fire and no civilians or firefighters were injured, officials said. Damage estimates were not available Tuesday, and the fire's cause remains under investigation.

The fire was fought by 22 firefighters staffing five fire engines, one tower ladder, one squad, three ambulances and one incident command vehicle. The Mundelein Fire Department was assisted by the Mundelein Police Department and firefighters from Countryside, Libertyville, Lake Zurich, Gurnee, Lake Villa, Deerfield, Lake Forest and Lincolnshire fire departments.
